Epilogue
“Hi Dad . . . you doing all right today?” she asked softly as she gently laid a bouquet of flowers amidst the myriad of them lining the stone base.
Launchpad draped a comforting arm around her shoulders, remaining oddly quiet.
“I sure miss you a lot . . . sometimes I forget you’re even gone.” Slowly the girl drew closer and ran her fingers along the name carved into the rock. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before, Dad, but . . . I love you.”
Sniffling back sobs, Gosalyn’s hand dropped limply back to her side and she rejoined Launchpad. A few paces out, however, she turned her head to gaze back once more.
The giant statue stood proudly in the middle of Saint Canard Park, its penetrating gaze encompassing the whole of the city and its cape flapping behind it in frozen waves of bold undulation. Beneath the stoic figure was an engraving. It read:
